Summer Project

Target Audience

The Target Audience for my production will be people who enjoy watching thrillers therefore this will be aimed at both males and females. Stereo-typically these types of films are targeted more towards males due to their rough nature however I want mine to appeal to women as well to have a large mainstream audience. The certificate for this type of film is normally 15 due to the BBFC (British Board of Film Classification)so my target audience would mainly be between 15 and 55 year olds. Therefore this film will not appeal to those under the age of 15 as the content will be too aggressive and the same to the elderly. The film will be aimed at a large audience as it will be on events that happen everyday, therefore the film can be based on a true story to give it a realistic feel.
The JICNAR scale- Joint Industry Committee for National Readership Surveys. Media producers use this scale in order to help identify and target a specific demographic. My target audience will not necessarily fit into one group on the JICNAR scale because a thriller film has a mainstream audience this is aimed at a large audience. The film may appeal to Group A professionals as they are not used to bad experiences that happen in their own lifestyles due to their class and status. However it may also appeal to Group E casual workers or students where bad experiences are more prominent as the younger ages and lower classes are more stereo-typically involved in things such crime.

Genre
This mind map below shows potential genres are suitable for a movie trailer. The genres Social Realism,Thriller,Horror,Crime and Romance are suitable target audience and will not present many potential challenges when producing a trailer,on the other hand the genres which are unsuitable are Sc-Fi,Western,Mystery,Action,Adventure and Documentary.

Questionnaire

I have identified what the target audience’s expectations are of a movie trailer are through a questionnaire- I have used both a mix of quantitative (closed data) and qualitative (open opinion based) questions.
